AUSTRALIAN MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL
18 – 22 MAY 2022
LAUNCESTON, TASMANIA

A diverse program to teach, collaborate, engage, perform, learn and enjoy.

WELCOME

Hello! My name is Tyran Parke and I’m truly thrilled to be the Artistic Director of Australian Musical Theatre Festival.

Having taught at the inaugural outing, then programmed the 2021 Festival, I know first-hand how this vibrant event brings together many of my greatest loves.

Aside from the magnificent disciplines of Music Theatre, Singing, Acting and Dancing, the festival is a place of collaboration, conversation, and connection; and at the heart of this, is ‘finding your voice’ through teaching and learning.

Over five days in May, Launceston will be seen anew through a celebration of story and song, of industry and community. I have personally long held a dual career as a professional director, alongside the world’s most sacred profession, teaching.

I have worked with students and teachers of all ages, in all settings, in pursuit of the most effective ways to inspire and create.

In 2022, Australian Musical Theatre Festival will continue to support students and teachers with practical, skills-based workshops, strengthen community through collaboration, offer alternative approaches on reaching ever-changing performance outcomes and provide access to the world’s best.

It does not matter how experienced you are, just bring along a curiosity and a hunger to for the magic that is Musical Theatre.

The team and I look forward to welcoming you!

AUSTRALIAN MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

The 2022 Australian Musical Theatre Festival will take place in Launceston, Tasmania from 18-22 May. This is a major event for everyone interested in the performing arts.

The hotly-anticipated Festival offers incredible opportunities for teachers and students to get involved in this welcoming, creative, ever-enthusiastic and family-friendly art form.

The five-day event includes a dedicated schools program designed to inspire and enthuse students, while building their creative and social skills. Students can participate in
workshops with professional musical theatre teachers and performers, watch shows, perform in public and meet new musical theatre-loving friends.

And it’s great value for money.

ABOUT LIA LOVES

Lia Cox is a passionate and enthusiastic advocate, supporter and contributor to the arts.

Having begun dancing at the tender age of 3, training with Sheila Laing and Claudia Maddeford in Adelaide, she continued her studies at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

After suffering a back injury, Lia’s performing career took a backseat, and saw her channel her efforts into business and motherhood.

Not one to stay away from the arts industry for too long, she returned to teach at numerous schools around Adelaide, sharing her knowledge of Lucette Aldous’ renowned Floorbarre and instilling ideals, beliefs and principles which have notoriously become ‘Life Lessons with Lia’ to all her students!

Lia has been part of the GWB Entertainment and Studio team as Production Administrator, and now Training and Assessment Supervisor for students studying their Certificate III and IV in Dance and Musical Theatre.

Most recently, Lia has added the role of Royal Academy of Dance Regional Manager SA/WA/NT to her bow and loves the variety and challenges her work brings.

A massive theatre buff, Lia loves spending her free time soaking up dance, cabaret and theatre shows, reviewing for Theatre Travels.

With her many industry contacts, and caring and vivacious personality, Lia is the ultimate host and chaperone and will ensure your child is experiencing the Australian Music Theatre Festival at its fullest!

STUDENT PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Throughout the program, there are plenty of performance opportunities for our group and for individual students including:

Public performances for groups and individuals around Launceston as part of the program;

  • Student spots available in our flagship AMTF Gala Concert (by audition)
  • A fun night of singing and socialising at the Youth Karaoke night
  • Public showing of a brand new Australian Musical Theatre work

Learn from the best! The Festival provides a unique opportunity to develop performance skills through workshops and masterclasses with some of Australia’s most highly regarded musical theatre teachers and guest stars.

In the past, artists such as Rob Mills, Jemma Rix, Callum Francis, Simon Gleeson, and Natalie O’Donnell were warmly received by school groups; hosting classes, candid guest talks about their careers in musical theatre, as well as contributing to some incredible performances at The Sound of Musicals concert; during which some lucky students were able to share the stage with them.

The headline artists for 2022 are Philip Quast, Paulini and Chloe Dallimore, with guest artists and facilitators including Freya List, Anne-Maree McDonald, John X, Jennifer Peers, John O’Hara plus more!
